Puromycin is an aminonucleoside antibiotic naturally produced by Streptomyces alboniger as a tyrosyl tRNA analog. It specifically inhibits peptidyl transfer on both prokaryotic and eukaryotic ribosomes. This antibiotic inhibits the growth of Gram positive bacteria and various animal and insect cells.
Puromycin shows broad spectrum activity, particularly strong activity against gram positive microorganisms but weak activity against acid-fast bacilli and even weaker activity against gram negative microorganisms. The concentration of this product is 10mg/ml, which has been filtered and sterilized and can be directly used for cell culture. Recommended working concentration range is 1 to 10 µg/mL in mammalian cells.
